NiP VALORANT line-up features ex-CS:GO, Overwatch players.
Ninjas in Pyjamas have announced a newly fielded VALORANT roster, originally signing Emir “RHYME” Muminovic and Niels “luckeRRR” Jasiek on June 25, two ex-CS:GO players. Erik “Bird” Sjosten took over the coaching role around then, too. But this morning, the Swedish organization scooped up the rest of their lineup, with former Overwatch League player Damien “HyP” Souville on the cards as well.
Alongside luckeRRR, RHYME, and HyP are two French CS players Enzo “Fearoth” Mestari and Charles “CREA” Beauvois. Fearoth will serve as captain of the team.
“It’s become clear that CS:GO experience is a strong predictor of VALORANT performance, and adding the spice of the highest level of Overwatch competition through HyP makes for a really strong foundation,” NiP COO Jonas Gundersen said.
The NiP VALORANT team will face off against forZe in the WePlay! VALORANT Invitational tomorrow at 10:00 BST. In the tournament, they will also compete against G2 Esports and fish123.
This move helps fill out a European VALORANT scene that has moved more passively than North America. Outside of NiP and G2, not many prominent European organizations have signed a roster. The fish123 team, which consists of four British players and the Belgian Adil “Scream” Benrlitom is linked to sign with Team Liquid.
NiP is a household name in professional FPS, building some of the best rosters of all time in Counterstrike history. The organization is making the leap into VALORANT, further cementing the game as a growing esport.
“This squad has an extremely high skill ceiling, has already proven itself competitively, and fits very well into our vision for team chemistry and esports performance,” Gundersen said. “I couldn’t be happier.”
